With high salt consumption, the risk of cancer increases

In addition to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, there are other reasons that speak against excessive salt consumption: The British Center for Cancer Research points to an increased risk of gastric cancer. It refers to a Japanese study. People who consume a lot of salt — around 12 to 15 grams a day — are at risk. A research team at the National Cancer Research Institute in Kashiwa, near Tokyo, has observed the eating habits of 40,000 adults in Japan for 11 years. According to this, on average only every thousandth man and every two thousandth woman in Japan suffer from stomach cancer. If the salt consumption is very high, however, one in 500 men and one in 1300 women fall ill — the risk of cancer is therefore twice as high. The study was published in the «British Journal of Cancer» «.

Cruises can be a real adventure. Video

In Germany, the two big ones, Aida Cruises and Tui Cruises, are stepping up: «» Aidaperla «» and «» Mein Schiff 6 «» are starting. The gaze of cruise fans will be primarily focused on MSC: The shipping company is putting two ships into service — both completely new series with exciting concepts.

«» Aida Perla «»: Twelfth member of the Aida fleet

After the «» Prima «» comes the «» Perla «». The twelfth member of the Aida Cruises fleet will be completely identical to its sister. And also with the «» Perla «» there are a few delays in the completion of the ship in the Mitsubishi shipyard in Japan: Originally planned for July, she will not leave Palma de Mallorca until September 2017. The seven-day voyages either go to Barcelona, Corsica, Livorno and Civitavecchia or, in addition to Livorno and Civitavecchia, to Marseille / Toulon, where the ship is moored overnight. There will be the same highlights on board as on the «» Aida Prima «» — including the «» Beachclub «» and «» Four Elements «» areas covered with a foil roof.

«» MSC Meraviglia «»: Year-round ship for the Mediterranean

By 2026, MSC intends to roughly double its capacity with up to eleven new ships. The starting shot is given by the «» MSC Meraviglia «» — the largest ship ever built by a shipping company based in Europe. The 2,250 cabins can accommodate a maximum of 5700 passengers. The «» MSC Meraviglia «» is built as a year-round ship, which is also equipped for cool climates. For example, there is a covered promenade over two decks and a covered pool. When it comes to entertainment, MSC relies on the cooperation with Cirque du Soleil. Its shows take place in a special lounge area. In the first season, the ship will sail in the Mediterranean from June 2017. The ports of departure are Genoa, Marseille and Barcelona.

«» MSC Seaside «»: Ship for warm regions

The opposite of the year-round ship «» Meraviglia «» is the second eagerly awaited newbuild from MSC: the «» Seaside «». «» The ship that follows the sun «» is the motto. Accordingly, it is intended for use in warm regions. From December 21, 2017, 7- and 14-day tours from Miami to the Caribbean are on the program. The maximum of 5300 passengers can look forward to the 360-degree waterfront promenade on deck 8. In addition, many public areas should offer a view of the sea — for example the atrium or the panoramic elevators. There is a separate restaurant for children.

«» Mein Schiff 6 «»: The last sister in the current style

There are still very few details about the fourth new building from Tui Cruises. The hardware of the ship will hardly change — it is almost identical to the «» Mein Schiff 3 «», «» Mein Schiff 4 «» and «» Mein Schiff 5 «». The all-inclusive concept also remains. Major structural changes are only planned for the new «» Mein Schiff 1 «», which will be launched in 2018 and will be a little longer and larger than the previous newbuildings. The «» Mein Schiff 6 «» seats a maximum of 2534 passengers, 90 percent of the cabins are located on the outside of the ship.

«» Silver Muse «»: New luxury ship at the start

After the «» Seabourn Encore «» and the «» Seven Seas Explorer «» had already been heavily upgraded in the luxury segment in 2016, another absolute luxury ship will be launched in 2017: the «» Silver Muse «» from Silversea. A maximum of 596 passengers should be offered a lot on board, especially in culinary terms. Eight restaurants are available. In the first year, after the christening on April 17th in Monaco, destinations in the Mediterranean are on the program. After the transatlantic passage, a crossing of the Panama Canal is planned.

«» Flying Clipper «»: Superlative sailing ship

The largest square sailor in the world will be launched at the end of 2017. 35 sails on five masts propel the ship in appropriate wind conditions, but of course there is also a motor on board. According to the shipping company, a maximum of 300 passengers can expect a comfortable ship, including a diving pool over three decks and a bathing platform at the stern. Regular guests of Star Clippers will also find familiar things on board: for example the «Tropical Bar», a restaurant with free meal times and the library.

«» Norwegian Joy «»: Kart track on board

The newest ship from Norwegian Cruise Line was originally supposed to be called «» Norwegian Bliss «». However, when it became clear that it would be built specifically for the Chinese, the shipping company decided on «» Norwegian Joy «» — in Chinese: «» Xi Yue Hao «». After its completion in the Meyer Werft Papenburg, the ship goes to the Far East. It will have its base ports in Shanghai and Tianjin (Beijing). The up to 3900 passengers can look forward to a go-kart track and an outdoor laser tag arena on board. If you like it a little quieter, you are right on the upper deck in a park. The hull painting comes from the Chinese artist Tan Ping.

«» Majestic Princess «»: Princess for the Chinese market

Even the new ship from Princess Cruises will hardly be seen by Europeans. It is also intended for the Chinese market. After the maiden voyage to and from Rome from April 4, as well as some trips in the Mediterranean, a 50-day trip to Shanghai to the base port will begin. The «» Majestic Princess «» has a capacity of 3560 passengers. According to the shipping company, there should be a Chinese flair on board. Among other things, two new specialty restaurants are planned. Of course, karaoke shouldn’t be missing either. On-board languages are English and Mandarin. In contrast to the sister ships «» Royal Princess «» and «» Regal Princess «» the atrium and the shopping area will be larger. The «» Majestic Princess «» is the first Princess Cruises ship to be painted on the hull: a stylized mermaid and the shipping company’s logo.

«» World Dream «»: sister ship of the «» Genting Dream «»

The «» World Dream «» from Dream Cruises is built in Papenburg at Meyer Werft, but only on the Asian market. The sister ship to «» Genting Dream «» is 335 meters long. According to the shipyard, interior design, restaurants, cabins and entertainment options are geared towards the Asian market.

«» Viking Sky «» and «» Viking Sun «»: From the river to the sea

Viking originally stood for river cruise ships, but the US shipping company has also been active in the high seas market for several years. Two new buildings are already on the oceans — two more will be added in 2017 with the «» Sky «» and the «» Sun «». The «» Sky «» will be delivered in February — the ship was originally supposed to be commissioned in summer 2016. The «» Sun «» will follow at the end of the year and will then go on a world tour. The two largely identical ships offer space for up to 930 passengers, and all cabins have balconies. In Germany, however, the ships are not actively marketed. They are primarily intended for guests from the USA and Great Britain.

If you want something very special for your honeymoon, a trip on a cruise ship is just the thing. There is hardly any other place where the young couple can spend more romantic hours together.

With the cruise ship on your honeymoon

A newly married couple is usually in great need of relaxation: the wedding preparations as well as the big party itself have sapped your strength. A cruise ship offers the comfort that is welcome in such a situation. You shouldn’t save at the wrong end: For this unique opportunity it can be an outboard cabin with a balcony.

Imagine standing on the balcony with your partner in the evening and watching the sun slowly sink into the sea. The upscale and very well-kept ambience on a cruise ship with gala dinners and many festive evening events invites the young couple to go out whenever they feel like it without much effort.

All modern cruise ships today not only have several swimming pools, but also extensive wellness areas where guests can be pampered. On shore excursions, foreign countries and cultures are discovered under expert guidance — and if the young couple would rather spend time together on their honeymoon, they can simply stay on board.

Particularly popular routes for honeymoons

Of course, it is particularly attractive to take a cruise through the Mediterranean on your honeymoon. Sun, warmth and of course a visit to Venice, the classic city for honeymoons, make such a tour particularly attractive. But the northern Baltic Sea in Scandinavia can also be fascinating, especially for nature lovers.

The very private island dream: More and more cruise lines have their own islands, especially in the Caribbean. In addition to beaches, there are water parks, ziplines and summer toboggan runs. You can see impressions of some private islands in our photo show.

Many vacationers dream of having their own island. A number of cruise lines, some of which have large areas of land, have developed them into their own destinations. There are currently seven islands in the Caribbean and one in the Emirates on the Persian Gulf. The passenger is of course not alone there, he has to share the island with the other passengers on board. The islands are similar in some ways, but there are also differences. Here is an overview:

Castaway Cay (Disney Cruise Line)

Some buildings on the Bahamas private island look like shipwrecks. The shipping company bought the island in 1996, but only uses a small part, the largest being wilderness. In the developed area, passengers can expect a lagoon for snorkeling, a water park, parasailing or glass-bottom boat tours. And of course well-known Disney characters are also on the island.

Labadee (Royal Caribbean)

The private island in Haiti is regularly served by Royal Caribbean and sister shipping companies Celebrity and Azamara. Among other things, there is an 800 meter long zipline, a mixture of summer toboggan run and roller coaster as well as speedboat excursions. Passengers cannot leave the Labadee resort, the facility is completely separated from the rest of Haiti.

Coco Cay (Royal Caribbean)

Royal Caribbean’s second private island is Coco Cay. It is part of the island chain of the Berry Islands (Bahamas). The name comes from the coconut trees on the beach. Among other things, there is a nearly five-kilometer nature adventure hiking trail in addition to water sports.

Great Stirrup Cay (Norwegian Cruise Line)

In 1977 Norwegian Cruise Line acquired Great Stirrup Cay as the first shipping company to acquire a private island. Renovation work will be carried out on the Bahamas island by the summer. In future, the beach can be reached via an 800 meter long promenade. A 300 meter long zipline will also be new. Suite guests and extra paying passengers have access to an exclusive lagoon resort with its own beach, restaurant and spa.

Harvest Caye (Norwegian Cruise Line)

The private island only opened last autumn. The shipping company prefers to speak of a Caribbean destination. The background to this is that, for example, beverage packages on board are not valid on land. Strictly speaking, however, it is a private island because, apart from Norwegian Cruise Line and its sisters Regent Seven Seas and Oceania, nobody else docks there. On the island there is a freshwater pool, a bird house with macaws and a zipline. Due to the proximity to the mainland, shore excursions in Belize are also possible.

Half Moon Cay (Holland America Line)

Holland America Line’s private island, part of the Bahamas, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. In the past few months, some areas have been renovated. Various new boats are now available. The huts and villas were also renovated and an oyster bar was built. According to the shipping company, a special feature on Half Moon Cay are the rides on horseback. Originally the island was only called by Holland America Line, but now they also use sister shipping companies such as Carnival Cruise Line, Seabourn or Cunard.

Princess Cays (Princess Cruises)

On the small Bahamas island of Eleuthera, around 80 kilometers from Nassau, the US shipping company Princess Cruises has had its own private area since 1992. Unlike many other private islands, Eleuthera is inhabited by locals. Among other things, Princess Cays has a lookout tower, there is a barbecue on the beach and a wide range of water sports.

Ocean Cay Marine Reserve (MSC)

MSC’s private island is still in the making.
